Altair offers unique WiMAX baseband chips and WiMAX RF transceivers, which are highly optimized for integration in small form factor, battery operated devices such as MIDs, Smartphones, VoIP phones and handheld consumer electronics devices.  Based on Altair’s cutting edge, field proven Software Defined Radio (SDR) processor, Altair's chipset is the industry’s acknowledged lowest power consuming and smallest mobile WiMAX solution.  With a total solution size from host to antenna of 9.5x9.5mm2 and power consumption figures which are lower than 0.5mW in standby and less than 100mW in operational mode, Altair’s mobile WiMAX chipset is the ideal solution for handheld device ODM/OEMs.

Altair’s mobile WiMAX semiconductor solution has been IOT’ed (Interoperability Tested) with most leading and deployed base stations globally.

About WiMAX
WiMAX is a digital wireless communications system, based on the IEEE 802.16 air interface standard, that is intended for wireless "metropolitan area networks."   WiMAX is capable of providing broadband wireless access (BWA) up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10 miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile stations.  

WiMAX supports WiFi-like data rates with the issue of interference lessened.   WiMAX operates on both licensed and un-licensed frequencies, providing a regulated environment and viable economic model for wireless carriers.
