Selection of Altair’s Technology for 1800MHz LTE Network Reinforces Company’s Position as Leading Global Supplier of LTE Chipsets
HOD HASHARON, Israel, November 17, 2010 — Altair Semiconductor, the world’s leading developer of ultra-low power, small footprint and high performance 4G LTE chipsets, announced today that it has been selected by Mobyland to power the first commercial-grade deployment available on a 1800MHz LTE network in Poland.
The solution, an LTE-USB modem based on Altair’s FourGee-3100/6202 technology, is manufactured by IPWireless, and has already successfully conducted extensive interoperability testing and completed rigorous field testing, allowing for immediate deployment on Mobyland’s network. The LTE USB modem is equipped with two internal antennas and two antenna connections for an external MIMO antenna. The modem currently operates in the 10 MHz band and is software upgradeable to operate in the 20MHz band as well, and allows for download speeds of up to 73mb/s and uploads of 25mb/s. The modem may be used with computers operating Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000 and Mac OS systems.
“In order to fully maximize the benefits that LTE provides, operators need to be able to provide their customers with technology that properly harnesses the power and speed of LTE, something that we could only find with the design from IPWireless and Altair,” said Adam Kurianski, member of the Mobyland board. “The combination of the high performance chipsets from Altair and the flexibility of IPWireless’ design, will allow us to provide wholesale access to broadband Internet using the most advanced LTE technology.”
Mobyland’s 1800MHz LTE network in Poland was built in partnership with CenterNet and is based on Huawei’s end-to-end LTE/EPC technology. The LTE network covers Poland’s largest cities, including Warsaw, Katowice and Lodz, allowing Mobyland to provide unparalleled mobile broadband service to operators and their end users with peak downlink speeds of more than 146 Mb/s per user.
“Altair is very proud to have been selected for such a cutting-edge deployment in an important, but as-of-yet untapped LTE band,” said Eran Eshed, Co-Founder and VP of Marketing and Business Development at Altair. “Our focus and dedication to advancing our products and preparing them for commercial development is now paying off, as products based on our IOT-tested chipsets and software are being rolled out by carriers around the world.”
Altair’s FourGee-3100 is a 3GPP LTE baseband processor that supports LTE category 3 (CAT-3) throughputs (100Mbps/50Mbps DL/UL respectively). The chip implements a 20MHz MIMO receiver and is based on a proprietary O2P™ Software Defined Radio (SDR) processor which offers performance which significantly exceeds traditional communications DSP cores, yet consumes a fraction of the power. The chipset supports FDD as well as TDD versions of the LTE standard and has undergone extensive interoperability testing (IOT) with major infrastructure vendors.
The company’s FourGee-6202 is a high-performance, wideband FDD/TDD radio IC which covers any 3GPP LTE frequency band in the range between 700-2700MHz. The combined chipset offers terminal manufacturers a true global solution.

Mobyland was established in December 2006 and operates as a limited liability company. Its objective is to develop a wireless telecommunications network based on the newest fourth generation technologies (LTE) which will replace the existing systems and equipment. The build-out of an independent network is possible thanks to radio frequencies held by Mobyland. In November 2007 Mobyland won a tender organized by the President of the Polish Electronic Communications Office and obtained frequency reservations in the 1800 MHz band. Since July 2009 Mobyland is owned by Aero2 Sp. z o.o. At the end of August 2009 the company launched its commercial services. In September 2010 Mobyland launched its LTE 1800 MHz network.
